Wedding Frenzy!

I signed up on Brides.com last night, and I joined perhaps a hundred sweepstakes. Ok, maybe not quite that many. Close. I entered to win two separate honeymoon trips, but I’m really trying to manifest winning the 8 day/7 night honeymoon at Sandals, which I think I already mentioned wanting to do in my Honeymoon post. I find it insanely amusing that that post was one of my highest ranking in comments in a long time, but not a single male answered.

I'm shooting for the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach & Villa Resort, which looks very nice. Plus it has two spas, and I was very bummed about not being able to do the spa at our hotel in Chicago (I tried; they couldn't fit me in). If we won the honeymoon for free, we'd be able to go all out on the spa and excursions! And they have Bob Marley tours (Jamaica). So if anyone would like to lend your energies towards seeing us win, I would whole-heartedly appreciate it! :D

It looks like we may be closer to picking a date. We’re thinking it would probably be best to have the wedding in mid to late spring, so probably around this time of year next year if we can get it together by then. But we figure late April or early May is some free space in our family celebrations, situated nicely between birthdays & Mother’s Day, and it comes conveniently after tax returns.

So without further ado,

Josh and I both fell in love with this when we saw it. The picture of the front is in a different color (there are 46 to choose from – thanks, Alfred Angelo!), but we would be going with the Cherry version in the first picture (style 1516):

I’m totally open to suggestions on bouquets. I don’t really want red roses like model, unless I just have maybe like three or four with a ribbon. I think I’d like something softer, but maybe with deep red accents of roses or something used sparsely.

To my surprise (and perverse pleasure), Eden enjoys looking at bridal magazines with me. Hanging out with lahermite’s daughter Jiana has really put some girl into Eden. Not only has she picked out the dress she wants, she’s also picked out the diamond ring she wants. She goes straight to the same two pages every time.

Now obviously I’m not going to be able to get this dress for her, but I’m going to do what I can to get her as close and kid-friendly a version as possible.

Hers is the one in the middle (style 1394):

That’s all I have for now, but it’s a lot more than I did have!

you will have a honeymoon worthy of your dreams. so mote it be.

ot - i wish the models weren't so fucking skinny. edens dress is about to fall off that poor emaciated girl. i know some people are naturally extremely skinny (logan's mum is one of them and my sister-in-law is another) but NOT THAT MANY ARE for fuck's sake. most of us are packing some cushion. stupid advertising moguls. need shooting. ;)

Yeah, but I actually like this site because it does show regular size woman and has plus sizes. Check out some bridesmaids gowns I was looking at - Happy Curves

Wow. What a dress! I want to get married all over again so I can wear something like that ;-)

I'd do something simple and elegant with it - maybe orchids or a single lily or something like this http://www.budget-bride.com/01113aa.jpg

Those are very pretty, thank you! I was thinking something of the same thing. I'm going to look at that site a bit more. :)

That dress is great! Here's a sort of overview of how I saved $/kept things simple...

- little girls' dresses were store bought at a consignment place for $6! I was flex on what they looked like.
- My Mom arranged our bouquets from flowers ordered from Sam's. They were all white hydrangeas.
- Food was a pasta buffet with chicken, bread, and salad - very cheap.
- I got married in May, and it was GREAT!!
- Ordered invitations online and they looked really nice! No triple lined envelopes or anything.

There's a great book called The Everything Wedding on a Budget book that I read about fifty times. It helps see where your priorities are, so you know that if you want a really fabulous dress, you cut back in another area (where honestly it doesn't matter, like favors -- I didn't have any, and no one cared!)

Good luck. I remember wedding planning -- exciting!

Thank you! I'll definitely look for that book. I don't really care what the girls' dresses look like, but Eden desperately wants the one. LOL We'll see what we can find. I honestly didn't even know where to start with all this wedding planning - I didn't even know I was expected to get favors for everyone! I may skip it or go a cheaper route. I think we're already planning on just having a pot luck reception. We want the main wedding part to be as inexpensive as possible, but I don't mind splurging on a nice dress. :D

That dress is fantastic!
Probably Eden mostly likes the "handkerchief hem" look, so it should be fairly easy to find her something similar enough for her taste. :)

Thank you so much! I really love that dress. I'm not sure what would go good with it, although I was kind of thinking along the same lines as aimingforpeace with simple and elegant. I thought about maybe a round bouquet of some sort, but I don't know yet. I'm open to all suggestions! As long as it's relatively in season and cheap in late April/early May (most likely). :)

I've seen that dress in magazines, and I always thought how beautiful it was. It's gorgeous. You'll look wonderful.

This dress is *adorable*.

I've always been a big fan of orchids, myself. I'd hit up the local florist and get suggestions.

One good way to keep the cost down is to barter. In leiu of a gift registry, perhaps you could put up an "assitance" registry, so that people can help you make invitations, arrange flowers, lend table linens, etc. My friend manifestress did that for her wedding and it really kept the prices down for her! I think she did the whole thing, including dresses and a tux, for under $1000.

Oh, as far as a tux goes: check the local consignment shop! My brother got his gorgeous tux for $25 there, and he's used it for almost every dance since he got it!

Oh, those are so cute! Thank you so much for the link! I don't know, it might be a little expensive to order two of them, but I'll show Josh. I was thinking of trying the consignment shop thing. They have two for kids that just opened down the road a bit from us.

I contemplated that one too! It has the lacing-style I was looking for - but then I completely jumped to the medieval-style one. That one is gorgeous. I loved it with blue. :)

Males are genetically predisposed to -not- discuss weddings, silly. ;)

This is my first choice, but my second choice would probably be this one. I kind of want an old fashioned wedding gown (but with just enough scarlet A to say 'Got kids' :P)

The dress you like is fabulous! Really, really nice.
Pot luck reception is definitely the way to go. It costs you no money and there is such a variety of food at them.

Other than that, I have no help for you. I hardly had any details to plan. Everything was very simplistic with our wedding. I was one of the first of my friends to get married, so none of us knew about all those little details. Worked well for me. :) Less hassle, more fun!

Good luck with the honeymoon, it sounds great.

Thank you! I definitely hope that honeymoon comes through for us. :) I don't mind the planning. Very rarely do I get to throw a big fuss, so it's nice to have the opportunity. I honestly never thought I'd get married.

I love both choices of dress.. Lovely! And Eden has good taste. As for flowers.. ever consider a few simple but lovely cala lilies? I love them and they come in colours. :o) Just my .02 . heheeh

Thank you! Eden does have good taste. I'm sitting here struggling how to make a nice, matching color scheme out of cherry and pink, because she told me, "No, I don't want white and red! I want my pink dress!" LOL

I had thought of calla lilies, but it seems like everyone has those lately. I'm considering incorporating sweet peas somehow, if we do have it in spring, because Josh calls me 'Sweet Pea'. :D Maybe...I didn't even know what they looked like til I googled them to make sure I like them. LOL

Thank you so much! I almost thought of getting a dark blue to match my engagement ring, but that red just stood out and looked so nice...

I appreciate any and all vibes! I'm SO wanting to win that. I think I'm going to make a manifestation grid for it. I haven't gotten my lazy bum to make one of those in several years.

Thanks!

One of my friends won a weddingmoon trip to Sandals from a bridal expo...i'm hoping that you will, too. Then i can say that two of my friends have, and that i must be a lucky charm! ;)

Why does it not surprise me that you love that dress? When we were planning to get married, i looked at that one & another one with red corset lacing up the back...we gotta stop meeting like this, kiddo! It's really a beautfil dress, and i know you'll look stunning in it.

Oh, and i personally plan on being there to see it! :D

Why does it not surprise me that Eden loves the princess dresses? She's so adorable!

You'd make such a great lucky charm! I used to have a purple rabbit foot key chain, and my lucky earrings that my brother gave me when he was little. While you're not quite small enough to wear on my person, you could come down and like hold my keys or something until I win. :D

we gotta stop meeting like this, kiddo!

Ha ha ha, what, you're not tired of being my Synchronic Sister, are you? Or are you afraid that I've tapped into and am slowly leeching out your lifeforce? I can do that, you know. But I won't, cause I dig you.

Oh, and i personally plan on being there to see it! :D

Really??? If you guys can make it, you're definitely invited!

Thank you!
