Eden's First Novel

It was recently brought to my attention that NaNoWriMo has a pretty cool Young Writers Program. I checked it out and mentioned it to Eden.

We've made one "book" already; we wrote her spelling words on index cards and bound them together with ribbon. I told her, since she was doing so well learning to read, that I thought she could do a real book if she wanted to make up her own story. She'd set a goal, and if she did it, we'd take it to a printer and make copies and get them bound up like real books.

So she's decided to write a seven-page book and illustrate it herself. Right now she says it's going to be about the pets, and it will be like a Dick and Jane book. I'll let you know how it goes!

That's completely awesome! Would she be willing to post her story here too so we can read it? I wanna see! :)

Thanks! I started writing in second grade, and I've done it ever since. :) Eden's been trying to learn to write. She keeps making "shopping lists" of random letters and things, so I'm hoping this will help her a little bit.

Oh good! I hoped the paper didn't get stuck. LOL It tried to, but I think I wrangled it into submission. Assuming you didn't have to bust the bottle to get to it, I hope you'll find a very good use for the bottle. My mom just happened to have a small selection of bottles, so I snagged you one of hers.

Oh wow! I am sorry to take so long to reply, I got way behind on emails and LJ. I am so excited to have a bottle that was your mom's! It's been elevated to awesomely sentimental status and is on my desk at my home studio, being all pretty and with a message in it. My friend Sarah came down to visit this weekend and commented on how cool it was that I had a message in a bottle, too! *happy*

Awesome! Well I'm glad you know you like it. :D Don't think I don't realize what today is, either. SUPER DUPER FABULOUSLY WONDERFUL HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I was going to send you a card, right up until our car broke. I haven't been able to do sundry shopping. (Which is also why I haven't replied yet...at least I don't think I have. No way to get to the PO). Hopefully I will make it up as soon as I get wheels again.

May it be awesome in every way!

Thank you! I had a most fantastic day, and this one seems to be just as awesome as well. Sorry to hear about your car, that sucks. It's no worry though. I am often a bit pokey on getting mail done and sent out, and also very lazy when it comes to driving places to buy things or get to the post office. Most of it is bills anyway, right? Anyway, I need to tak emy shower and get to work. . . ahhhh, chores! *grin*

Great! Does Eden say anything about posting the images alongside the story? =)

I know, I read it somewhen, but can't remember; how old is Eden?

Oh she's quite happy to share the whole thing. I can do that now that I have a camera, so sounds like fun! She's five and a half. (And that half is extremely important ;D)

Yeah, they always stress the number of months! One morning I guided five kindergarden children through the exhibition (which is actually boring, only old chests andshards and nothing to explore or try-out...) and they were all five-AND-SEVEN-MONTH!!! or something the like. =)
