Whole30 Wrap-up

Well I have (finally, after several tries) completed my third round of Whole30, an elimination diet that helps you discover how your body reacts to various foods. Now, both times I've done this before, I've completely skunked the “reintroduction phase”. I tend to binge as soon as I'm “free”. I have resolved not to do that this time. So I'm continuing on with the program, and I will be reintroducing various food groups over the next two weeks as recommended by The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom.

I haven't seen as many positive benefits this time around as I have in the past. I don't have a scale, so I haven't weighed myself yet, but I can guarantee that I didn't lose the 30+ pounds I lost the first time I did the program (way back before white potatoes were allowed, and being poor, I rely on potatoes a lot, so maybe that's part of it). My pants might be a little looser, so I might be doing better on bloat, but that might also just be wishful thinking. My shirts still feel tight across my middle. I initially had very good energy, but this past week, I've really been dragging.

I had to reread the section of the book on “Non-scale Victories” to see if any apply to me, given that I can't notice any off the top of my head. In checking the list, I guess I have less stomach pain, am more regular, this round I've had fewer episodes of illness, maybe more energy in the morning, and that's about it. It's a bit disappointing that I haven't seen more obvious improvements this round, but I'm still proud of myself for sticking with it. And I hope that a proper reintroduction educates me on a few things.

I've already noticed that on days when I skip breakfast or skip adding a healthy fat with meals, those are the days I am more likely to snack (usually on raisins and/or almonds. And raisins were feeding my sweet tooth, so I know I shouldn't have eaten them as often as I did.). That's a good thing to realize. I still hate eating in the mornings and could rarely (never?) manage to do so within two hours of waking up. Usually two hours or so is when I would go find breakfast, and it vastly helped if I already had food prepped and just waiting to be heated up and eaten.

I'm SO over all the cooking and meal prep, but I'm going to try to keep sticking to the program through reintroduction. Today I get to reintroduce alcohol and see how that affects me, so that's exciting. I'm going to have a couple-few tequila shots today and celebrate. I already know that I often get a weird tingly feeling in the back of my neck/head when I drink, which is weird, but we'll see how else it affects me after today.
