It took me all day to catch up my emails, just from missing one day yesterday! I'm sorry that I forgot to post and say that I was home safely. :) It was bumpy and scary, so I appreciate all the energies and prayers everybody lent! We had snow flurries as I landed in Asheville, but I was lucky I landed when I did. It started snowing much harder on the way home, but it wasn't sticking and today was just a lovely day.

I just wanted to pop in quickly and let everyone know I was safe. I'll do a proper post on my trip later, although it seems I'll probably be gone next week. Not gone gone, just sticking close to the house.

Thanks again!

Thanks so much! I miss you guys too. :D I'm sure your home feels suitably full though...

So guess what! Josh is more down with the AF idea than I expected. It is under heavy consideration. Please pass that nugget along to your husband, with my eternal thanks for all ya'll's help!

No problem. I meant the homeschooling thing, actually. ;)

So far, i've found nothing that indicates it is required...i'm thinking the whole thing is kind of a rumor!

Whew! That info sounds a bit more rational - and testing isn't even required? Sweet.

Great! Start packing...there's still an empty house next door! LOL

If you have any other questions, please let me know. Recruiters aren't known for being the most truthful lot. :)

By my calculations at current rates (which will go up soon) while in basic training as an E-1, every month you will make $1203.90 in basic pay (taxable), $889.00 in housing allowance, $279.88 for food allowance and $250.00 in family separation allowance. All allowances are non-taxable. Due to your JROTC, you will skip E-2 and be promoted to E-3 the day you graduate basic training, making your basic pay (at 2008 rates) about $1588.00. You'll continue to get all the other allowances while you're in tech school as well. Not a bad deal! I'm not sure if you'll be able to take advantage of the free medical care for your kids until you reach your 1st duty station, but they won't even acknowledge Josh until you have a marriage license.

Wow, thanks so much! All sounds very nice...I've been doing some reading on it. About.com says that AF max age cap is 27, and Air Guard was 34. That means I'd have to do it by next year, and Josh is supportive of that, but I'm not sure if I could wrangle my credit into submission by then. We'll be getting married next year though, so that shouldn't be a problem. Although I did read that they don't like it if you have over two dependents, so maybe I should try to sign up *before* we get married...I just don't know. I'm going to try to talk to a recruiter soon and see if they'd even consider me, given current (and past, I suppose) circumstances.
