Tom's at it Again

So now that Katie Holmes had the baby (girl - Suri), I can't help but wonder - (thanks birthingway) Did Tom Eat the Placenta?

Cruise revealed: "We've been studying what a woman goes through, what happens to a woman's body."

But, it's so funny...

Tom said: (in regards to postpartum depression)

"When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things."

He doesn't even realize that a hormonal thing is a chemical imbalance.

I'm so glad the media continues to focus on this font of wisdom.

Have you known couples in your work that have chosen to eat or do wierd things with the afterbirth?

Not me personally, but I have heard of weird stuff - I've heard of eating the placenta before, and I mean, I can support that if it's a cultural thing. You have to understand that I'm not a Tom Cruise fan. :p I've also heard of health reasons why women dry a placenta out, powder it down, and make gel capsules out of it, but I can't remember what for. I've also heard of using a placenta to make art, like fabric prints.

Which part - the eating, the pills, or the art?

All of it. I think of it as just another organ, as wonderful as a placenta is, liver has magical properties, too.. so do kidneys. But I personally don't make art with them or consume them. Even people who eat kidneys or liver are not eating human kidneys (one hopes).

A nice chianti and some fava beans.... barf.

Why? Why does he still exist? Can't we make him go away?

Ok, I take your word for it, cause I don't actually get it.

I think Suri is a lovely name. But then, I'm partial to unusual names. I'm sure they'd be ripping my kids' names if I was famous.

OMG... I did get it.. maybe it's just my age. Old movie... "Oklahoma"...

it really is a pretty name. The shame of it all is that the father has made such an ass-half of himself (would take two to make an ass whole!) that the child is going to suffer... THAT is almost criminal...

I got it... that was hilarious! Now all you gotta do is have Billy Crystal sing it on karoake and Meg Ryan standing there... rofl....

I have both my placentas in my freezer, soon to have a third ;)

What are you planning to do with them?

Im of (distant) native american deccent, they believe that the placenta is the babys spirit brother. They would plant the placenta under a tree so that the spirit brother could be honored for the role it played. We are trying to move asap, so we want to wait to plant until we get our "real" house ;)

The OB thought we were going to eat them, Scott had to explain it, lol. We were the first people in thehistory of the hospital to ask to take home th eir placenta .. Good times ;)
