A Tiny Rant

I am SO tired of hearing about moms who "are measuring big"/"have a small pelvis" and so their doc schedules an induction ... 4-5 days before the Fourth of July.

You don't think they have holiday plans, do you?

The worst part - I've heard of at least five moms who this is happening to.

Cytotec, or Misoprostol, is a drug often used for inductions. However, cytotec is not approved by the FDA for pregnant women. It has caused so many complications during labor, including deaths of baby or mother, hysterectomies, and brain damage.

CIMS: Problems & Hazards of Inductuion of Labor This is a FANTASTIC resource and has a whole section on Cytotec

ICAN: Misoprostol (Cytotec) for Labor Induction: A Cautionary Tale

ICAN: Position Statement: Induction of Labor Doesn't mention cytotec, which is covered elsewhere, but a good resource

Inductions: Pitocin & Cytotec

Cytotec Contraindications & Warnings

Cytotec: Safe for Inducing Labor This is by Henci Goer - she is an AWESOME resource. If you haven't read Henci's book "A Thinking Woman's Guide to Better Birth", you should. While she's a bit opinionated, she has some of the best research documentation available for practically EVERY intervention. A must read for all pregnant or TTC mommas!!!
