Nestlé buys out Jenny Craig

My thanks to boob_nazis for this info:

Nestlé buys out Jenny Craig

An ironic quote from the article:

[This]is part of the company's "continuing commitment to nutrition, health and wellness," the Swiss company said in a statement.

And some quotes from the pdf I linked in this post, Ask Me Why I Boycott Nestlé:

* Nestlé breaks the international marketing requirements for baby foods more than any other company...1.5 million infants die around the world every year because they are not breastfed. Where water is unsafe a bottle-fed infant is up to 25 percent more likely to die as a result of diarrhoea than a breastfed child.

* A former employee in Pakistan, Syed Aamar, has exposed corrupt practices, including bribing of doctors, implicating staff at the highest level of the company. Aamar says he was threatened when he raised this with the managers. He remains in hiding and hasn't seen his wife or two young children in three years.

* Nestlé is the target of a boycott in 20 countries because of its inethical and irresponsible marketing of baby foods.

More info on the boycott can be found here: Baby Milk Action

A great resource for finding out which companies own which products is here: Responsible Shopper, or for Nestlé specifically, Nestlé's profile (updated today).

My pleasure! I just found that link this morning on the boob_nazis site. It's a good one. Much better than scouring every label when I'm out shopping. ;)

A really great resource (that includes Nestle information) is BadCorp.org

The website has a very comprehensive breakdown of irresponsible corporations including a list of other companies it may own, their board of directors, and products they produce (i never know Nestle made Alpo!!!)...as well as a factual list of violations. Nestle happens to be at the top of their proclaimed 'Corporate Shitlist'.

You can also search for reviews on specific companies.

Oh wow, thanks! I didn't know about BadCorp.org OR Alpo

I boycott all of Nestle's products. I refuse to lend my money or support to their immoral business practices. Luckily, I have a wonderful Beloved who understands the depth I feel on this subject, and he was willing to give up their Treasures for me. That was his favorite candy. I also had to stop buying the kids Juicy Juice when I realized Nestle bought it out. I'd rather support companies that comply with international marketing laws and treat their employees with respect. I know Nestle owns A LOT of brands, which is why I'm careful to be sure my support goes elsewhere, lest they be bought out, too.
