'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin dies

Steve Irwin, the Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, Australian media said. He was 44.

...but he died from a stingray barb to the heart, ABC reported on its Web site.

That's so sad! I *love* Steve Irwin. And he's got a young daughter (the article says 'son', but unless he's had another one when I wasn't looking...I know he had a daughter).

His poor wife must be devastated. I know they filmed the show together. I hope she was there with him. And he was so young. Lets hold his whole family in the Light.

As my preacher always says when we lose someone:

Blessings upon you, dear one. A new adventure awaits you.

He has two kids. Bindi Sue, and the one he dangled in front of a croc a few years back...
I'm still wondering about the physics of that barb going through your heart...it would have to be a serious freak accident...

And his wife is apparently in Tasmania filming some documentary and doesn't know yet.

I'm still wondering if this isn't like the last time he was reported dead...

Or maybe just hoping...

I didn't hear about the last time. What was that about?
And sorry for replying to you. I must have clicked the wrong "reply to" since I'm technically supposed to be sleeping. ;-)

It's Ok:-)
He was reported dead a year or two ago in a croc accident. I don't know if there was *anything* to that report. But sometimes "crew member was injured" becomes "star died," especially when you consider the middle-of-nowhereness where this happened. But that could also contribute to not being able to get help quick enough...

aye. ABC, CBS, and CNN have all started reporting the story. It's true.

They reported it last time as well...I'm still waiting for more details.

Oh no! It looks like it really is. That's so sad. I have to admit, I had a bit of a crush on him. A stingray barb to the heart is a pretty freak accident, though. I can't help but wonder if that's what really happened...
Sep. 4th, 2006 05:54 am (UTC)
Oh, that's just awful! I hope it's not true...

I know! How could it go through his heart? So he was reported dead once before? I *hope* this is a hoax. He is just too young, and I love him just too much.

I knew about Bindi, but I didn't know about the other child. (No more cable, lol). I hope for their sake that it's just a hoax.

Unfortunately all of the major news stations are beginning to report the death. It's not a hoax. I wish it was. :(

I wish it was. :(

Me, too! I love watching him, and he has such a beautiful family. I hope they're all ok.

Oh dear! My daughter loves Steve. When she was very young I wouldn't let her watch him, because I thought the way he approached animals wasn't good for a child to watch and perhaps copy, but when she was older, and knew better, we watched together.

My sympathies are with Terry and their children. . .

Me too. Poor Terri - you could tell how much they loved each other. I couldn't imagine being left alone with my two babies at such a young age. *hugs & Light to the Irwin family*

Oh, I know. I just can't imagine how he could have gotten a sting ray barb to the heart - especially if he knew what he was doing with the animals. (And he always seemed like he did) But the heart? That's just sketchy.

It *is* sad. He was awesome.

He was a legend... yes, his family must be beyond devastated.

He has - I can't say past tense - a son and a daughter. :(

I found out he'd had a son. I haven't watched the show for a while, not having cable. But I remember when Bindi was born, and it doesn't seem like 8 years ago. Wow, it's gone so fast. His poor babies. My heart is with all of them.

I'm really sad about that, too. I am a huge animal lover and I really admired his enthusiasm. When I saw the story I was hoping that it was a hoax.
Sep. 4th, 2006 02:09 pm (UTC)
Me too. I'm *still* hoping it's a hoax, although it seems pretty certain at this point that it's not. His enthusiasm *was* awesome, and I suppose it's good that he went doing what he loved. It still makes me want to cry!

S came and woke me up with the news *sniff*, I loved watching him,and A was really getting into his show...Sucks big ones...

I know, I love him a lot. I'll have to admit to having a bit of a crush on him. I can't believe he really died..

On a more positive note, another super-hot icon you have there. I really need to make some sexy icons for myself. Might make me feel better.

Ok, if it's not too disrespectful, I think this one's kind of hot...

Re: thought you'd like to read this...
Thank you for that link! I see those 'What's up on Planet Earth' messages a lot through groups & friends pages, but they often don't really resonate with me and I just skip or skim them. I hadn't seen this one, and so I thank you for pointing it out. I totally agreed with her perception of his passing. I think it's so sad to see the 'flack' some people are giving him, and I think he chose to go out doing what he loved. I hadn't thought about the heart energy, but boy, that sure makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for sharing!
